คำว่า too (เกินไป) ต้องวางไว้หน้าคำคุณศัพท์และคำกริยาวิเศษณ์ เช่น
I don't want to go to Australia. It's too far.
I didn't buy that car. It was too expensive.
You're driving too fast!
You're working too hard.
อธิบายถึงสิ่งที่ทำให้ผู้เรียนภาษาอังกฤษสับสนเกี่ยวกับการใช้คำนี้สองประการ คือ
1. too และ very
อย่าสับสนการใช้ too กับ very จำไว้ว่า too หมายถึง "เกินไป" แต่ very หมายถึง "มาก"
I can't drink this tea. It's too hot.
Waiter : Be careful. The plates are very hot.
2. too และ too much
อย่าสับสนระหว่าง too กับ too much สำนวน too much จะไม่ใช้นำหน้าคำคุณศัพท์และคำกริยาวิเศษณ์ แต่จะใช้นำหน้าคำนามนับไม่ได้หรือใช้ตามลำพังก็ได้
Don't drink too much coffee.
Don't eat too much cheese.
I gave the waiter five dollars. Was that too much?
You talk too much!
